Child Bereavement UK Recruits Locals for Christmas Tree Collection

Whether looking for a way to kickstart fitness or an excuse to sneak another mince pie, Child Bereavement UK is asking volunteers to sign up to help with its tree collection campaign.

Each year, the charity organises a special tree collection scheme, where people can offer a donation to Child Bereavement UK and have their real tree collected from outside their homes.

How the Scheme Works

The collection scheme will be offered in select postcodes in Buckinghamshire and in Berkshire and can be booked from mid-November.

Child Bereavement UK is currently recruiting volunteers from throughout the region. The charity is hoping to recruit as many volunteers as possible for this local collection, which will be taking place between 13th and 17th January.

Volunteer Roles

A perfect opportunity for friend groups, work teams or those looking to start the new year by making new friends, there are two types of volunteer roles available: van drivers and tree collection assistants. The driver volunteer will drive a van along a planned route with another volunteer.

Together, they will collect Christmas trees from outside people’s homes, load them into the vehicle and take them to designated recycling points. Drivers who can use their own vans are especially welcome.

About the Charity

Child Bereavement UK is the nation’s largest provider of grief support. The charity helps bereaved families rebuild their lives after a bereavement, supporting children and young people as well as parents or carers who are grieving the loss of a baby or child.

Ben O’Keefe, a fundraiser for Child Bereavement UK, said:

Each year we welcome an army of amazing volunteers who come together in the local community to collect real Christmas trees from homes and businesses in nearby towns and villages.

This important activity not only helps to spread the name of Child Bereavement UK, but it also helps us to raise funds through donations for collecting the trees so we can be there for bereaved families, locally as well as throughout the UK.

Year on year we welcome familiar faces and new ones too, and it is always a lovely community opportunity which is a nice way to begin the new year. And if you haven’t quite had your fill of good cheer quite yet, there’s also a little goodie bag on hand too!

Anyone who would like to sign up to help with the local Christmas tree collection can visit the dedicated volunteering page on the Child Bereavement UK website.
